Hi Hampton,
Don’t forget a couple of things happening this weekend on Sunday the 29th June in the Woodland Garden in Bushy Park from 4.00pm till 7.00pm we have ‘Jazz in the Park’ which is part of the Teddington and Hampton music festival. So bring a picnic and a few glasses and enjoy a great evening of music. Also Neverthebride will be performing at the Bulls Head in Barnes on Monday 30th June at 8.30 pm – don’t miss!
Below is the reply I received from Richmond Council re questions put to them.
Dear Martyn,
“First of all Hampton is not being ‘singled out’ and traffic wardens (by the way they are now called Community Enforcement Officers) don’t work on targets.
Traffic Wardens are there to enforce traffic regulations which are there to help the flow of traffic. This encourages visits to local retailers and businesses. Good traffic flow also means people are able to use buses and their bikes to make journeys in a shorter time as well as use their cars. Station Road is soon to lose its 20 minute parking bays as only a few businesses wanted them retained and they also caused parking problems for the local residents who live in the roads that go from Station Road i.e. Belgrade, Plevna and Avenue Roads. The idea of introducing them was the idea of a few shop owners but it turns out that the majority of businesses don’t like them. They either hadn’t responded to the original consultation or they had started businesses after this had gone out.
Three bays are being retained as 20 minute parking, outside Tail-End, and the adjacent businesses, one of which incorporates the Post Office. The new parking restrictions will not please everybody but are what the majority have said they would like. The new regulations for Station Road will mean that commuter parking will be discouraged but parking for the shops and local businesses will be possible.
Further along Station Road, outside the Fish and Chip Shop to the Dry Cleaners there will a maximum parking for two hours. At present there are no restrictions here but again a local shop keeper has asked for changes so that commuters don’t park there and shoppers can come and go more easily.
I presume you mean by the village, Ashley Road. There is some parking there but this is restricted for various reasons. Outside the pharmacy, Caven’s bakers and Threshers there isn’t any parking because these businesses are too near the corners of Tudor and Milton Roads. There is also a place for pedestrians to cross there and it makes it difficult if cars are parked there. The legitimate parking isn’t far.
I don’t think you can describe the company that resurfaced the roads as ‘cowboys’. I think the road surfaces are better now they have been done.
As a local Ward Councillor I have helped many residents with various issues including parking concerns and will continue to do so.”
Regards,
Suzette Nicholson,
Cllr. Hampton Ward
I’ll be back with more news and views next week – see you then.
